What you agree to when you subscribe · last updated 8 October 2026
The short version. DecTrace reads a declarations page and lays it out so you can check it. It is a reading aid, not a checker: it gets things wrong, and you have to look. It is not insurance advice and it does not replace reading the policy. You pay monthly, you cancel whenever you like, and what you owe us is capped at what you have paid us.
Who you are contracting with
Christian Burkardt, Oklahomastraße 25, 66482 Zweibrücken, Germany · info@dectrace.com. “We” and “us” below mean that person; “you” means the person or business that subscribes.
What the service does
You send us a declarations page. We read it and return its contents as structured rows — coverages, limits, deductibles, premiums and the header fields — and, next to each value, where on the page we found it. Where we cannot point to a line for a value, we mark it as such instead of presenting it as confirmed.
How much you can send
A subscription includes up to 1,000 pages per calendar month, up to five documents per upload or email and up to ten pages each. Every page we read counts once; a photo counts as one page. When you reach the included amount, we let you know and keep reading up to 1,100 pages that month, so nothing stops suddenly. Above that, we pause reading until we have agreed a larger plan with you. Documents you emailed wait for us, so nothing is lost. Uploads are not kept: we tell you, delete them as with every upload, and you can upload them again. Very large batches may be spread over more than one day. During a free first month from a promotional code, up to 200 pages are included; emailed documents above that are read once your first paid month starts, and uploads can be sent again then.
Who a subscription covers
One subscription covers one agency. Anyone in that agency may send documents — from any address on the agency’s own domain, or from addresses we add for you. The allowance belongs to the subscription, not to a person. A network, cluster, service provider or virtual-assistant firm that processes documents for several agencies needs one subscription per agency or a volume plan — write to us.
What the service does not do — read this part
We do not guarantee that the output is correct. The engine misreads characters, occasionally places a value in the wrong row, and can omit a coverage that is on the page or produce one that is not. This is not a disclaimer written for form's sake; it is a measured property of the product and the reason the output is built to be checked rather than trusted.
The review step is part of the product, not an optional extra. The output is a draft for a competent person to verify against the document. If you pass a value on without checking it, that is your decision and your responsibility.
Specifically, we do not:
- give insurance, legal, financial or tax advice;
- express an opinion on whether coverage is adequate, correct or in force;
- compare a declarations page against a binder, quote, proposal or any other document;
- verify the declarations page against the underlying policy contract;
- guarantee a turnaround time, uptime or continuous availability.
Where the declarations page and our output disagree, the document governs — and where the declarations page and the policy contract disagree, the contract governs.
What you are responsible for
- Rights in what you upload. You confirm that you may lawfully send us each document, including any consent or client authorisation your own duties require.
- Checking the output before you rely on it, quote from it, or pass it to anyone else.
- Your account. Keep your access to yourself; tell us promptly if it is misused.
- Lawful use. Do not use the service to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to attack or overload the service.
The subscription is for your own business use. Reselling the output as an extraction service of your own, or building a competing service on it, needs a separate written agreement — write to us, we do such agreements.
Subscription and payment
The subscription costs 49 USD per month, charged in advance for the coming month, by card through our payment provider Stripe. There is no minimum term. A promotional code from us may waive the charge for your first month; after that the subscription continues at the normal price unless you cancel.
Prices are net. Where any turnover tax, VAT, sales tax or similar applies to your purchase, it is added at checkout or charged in addition, depending on where you are.
We may change the price for future billing periods. If we do, you will be told before the change takes effect and can cancel before it applies.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time on your billing page. Your access continues to the end of the month you have already paid for and does not renew after that. Details, and the cases in which we refund anyway, are on the refunds page.
Your documents
How we handle a document you send us — what it is used for, how long it is kept, and the AI services that read it — is set out in full in our privacy notice. It forms part of these terms.
You keep every right in the documents you send. We claim no ownership of them and no licence beyond what is needed to produce your output.
Availability and changes
We may change, improve or discontinue parts of the service. If we discontinue the service as a whole, we will tell you and refund the unused part of any period you have paid for.
We may change these terms. If a change affects you materially, we will tell you before it takes effect, and you may cancel if you do not accept it.
Liability
We are liable without limit for injury to life, body or health, for intent and gross negligence, and wherever the law does not permit us to limit our liability.
For ordinary negligence we are liable only where we breach an obligation that is essential to the contract, and only for the damage typically foreseeable in such a contract. In any event our total liability is limited to the fees you have paid us in the twelve months before the event.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit, or for damage arising because output was relied on without being checked — the obligation to check is stated plainly above and is the reason the output shows its sources.
Nothing here limits any mandatory statutory right you have as a consumer.
Ending the agreement
Either of us may end this agreement at the end of a paid period. We may suspend or end it immediately if you use the service unlawfully, if you send documents you have no right to send, or if payment fails and is not settled after we have asked.
Governing law
German law applies, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a merchant, a legal person under public law, or have no general place of jurisdiction in Germany, the place of jurisdiction is Zweibrücken, Germany. If you are a consumer, mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence remain unaffected.
If a provision here turns out to be invalid, the rest stays in force.
Questions
One email to info@dectrace.com reaches a person. If something in these terms does not match what the service actually did for you, say so — we would rather fix it than argue about it.
